"To Good Fights Between Good Friends!"
The Ann Arbor Dueling Society is a USA Fencing-registered club based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We train in all three modern Olympic fencing weapons — foil, épée, and sabre — and welcome fencers of every experience level, from total beginners picking up a blade for the first time to seasoned competitors.
We put on one of the biggest annual tournaments in the region, the Duelist Open, and our members compete across Michigan and beyond. But we're just as much a social club as a competitive one — the kind of place where you make real friends and end up at the same bar table after practice for years running.
We hold regular practices every Thursday at the Ann Arbor YCMA. Beginners are always welcome, and we have all the loaner gear you'd need.
Bill leads the class through warm-ups, footwork, target practice and blade drills. This is where you should start if you're new to fencing -- you'll learn the basics of foil fencing, along with the tactics and techniques that can transfer to the other weapons should you take an interest.
Stick around after the lesson to stab a friend or two!
Registering for our All Levels course through the Y gives you access to all of the Open Fencing practice sessions -- including the Y's Sunday session from 12-3pm.
